Usage

Anyone can use this site to find out about the therapeutic uses of herbal extracts.

The first place to start is the Search Page, where you can enter the name of a herb (common name) or a condition, or the first few letters of a herb or condition name.   Just remember that the less information you provide the search tool with, the more results it will find.   In fact, if you leave both search fields blank, it will return all the entries in the database, which may take some time for you to scroll through.

Once you click the Submit button on the Search page, you will be taken to the Search Results page.
This page lists all the herbs and conditions that match your search parameters. Each line in this table describes a herb and (usually) a condition.   Where a herb can be used to treat a number of conditions, and those conditions match your search parameter, the herb will be listed multiple times, once for each condition.

Click on the relevant view link to view the Herb Details. This page displays information on the herb you selected, including:

  • Botanical Name;
  • Other Names;
  • Parts (of the plant) used for therapeutic purposes;
  • Active Constituents;
  • Therapeutic Actions;
  • Contraindications;
  • Drug Interactions; and
  • References.
  • If the selected herb is linked to conditions, all conditions will also be displayed. The condition you selected will be highlighted.
  • If there is a image of the herb available, a thumbnail will be displayed on the page, which will link to a larger picture. This picture will open in a new browser window or tab (depending upon your browser). Simply close this window/tab when you want to return to the herb information page.
  • Members who have logged in will also see Dosage information. This information is withheld from non-members to discourage self-medication by unqualified people.
  • Members will also have a button to enable them to contribute information on the herb and/or condition.
